Words in quilts have a long history, whether it?s just names, initials, dates or phrases. Most often the words have identified the maker(s) or been a collection of names within the quilt blocks as in friendship quilts. Those were often stamped, inked or appliqued. I will teach you how to piece your words using the method created by Tonya Ricucci in her book Word Play Quilts. This is indeed a playful and easy way to add words to your quilts as it is ?liberated,? allowing you to modify your words ? changing the height, size or setting to suit your quilt. Once you learn this method you may be tempted to add words to all your quilts!
Come stitch the day away with a friend or meet new ones. This is the perfect opportunity to get some of those WIP's (Works In Progress) back on the track to completion! Full use of the classroom - and Debi will be available to collaborate with you!
String quilts are made from narrow strips or 'strings' of fabric. The strips are sewn together to form squares, triangles or other shapes. Traditionally the strips were sewn onto a paper or cloth foundation. I teach a paperless or foundation-free method. It is a quick and fun way to use up lots of scraps. You will be amazed to see how a random assortment of fabrics can come together and make a vibrant, cohesive quilt.
Bring your featherweight and join Dave Trebotich from the "Twice Nice Sewing Machine Restoration" as he walks you through problem solving and how to service and maintain your featherweight Sewing Machine. In this 5 hour, hands-on class you will learn to inspect, adjust and lubricate your machine. You will learn how to handle thread jams and about all those amazing parts and attachments.
