We all have several UFOs (Unfinished Objects) laying around our sewing room. Maybe all the blocks are sewn but you just can’t find the motivation to add the sashing. Or maybe you picked out all the fabrics and found just the right pattern, but you just can’t seem to make the first cut. And then there’s those mystery projects that have been in the tote so long you have no idea how much work is left to finish them - it might be a pleasant surprise, or it might be a ton of work - who knows.
The Mission “Sew Possible” Club is here to help you finish those projects! There’s satisfaction in finishing the project, but for a little extra motivation, we’ll have prizes each month.
“Sew” --- How does this work?
First: Register! To sign up, pay your $72 membership fee (that’s a low price of $6 per month).
Click here to register for in-person.
Click here to register for Zoom.
Second: Over the next few weeks dive into your bins, totes, project bags and choose 12 that you want to tackle in 2024. Projects can include embroidery, quilting, bag sewing, hand stitching, or applique! Assign a number to each project, make a written list of each project – and email the list to Debi@woodengatequilts.com. This completes your registration.
Each month we’ll draw a number. You’ll have until the next club meeting to complete that particular project from your list.
Completed projects must be brought in during the next club meeting (last Sunday of each month- 12:30-2pm) for show and tell or posted in the Wooden Gate Quilts Instagram or Facebook group by 10 am on club day to be eligible for prizes.
Everyone who turns in a completed project will be eligible for our monthly prize drawing. Or maybe everyone will get a prize - it will vary by month.
Every completed project also gets you an entry into the grand prize valued at over $250 in December 2024.
There will be a special prize for people who complete all 12 projects.
Do I need to come in the shop?
Mission “Sew” Possible is also a social gathering. That said, we want as many of our community to be able to participate. When you register - choose the ZOOM ONLY - Mission Sew Possible class. Once we receive your list of projects, we will send out the ZOOM link to you! Using your Zoom link will bring right into the classroom where eyou can fully participate in show and tell and be the first to show which project you will be working on! Making new friends in the comfort of your own sewing space -- is always a win! Zoom replays will be posted on this page so you can catch up if you miss a session with your fellow quilters.
Can I participate online?
Sure can! Make sure you join the Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/missionsewpossible
and register for the Zoom Only Mission Sew Possible: https://www.woodengatequilts.com/module/class/529274/zoom-only---mission-sew-possible-2024
This will be our Mission's "chat space", in this group you need to post what your project of the month is, post your finishes (to be eligible for the monthly prize drawing, AND more importantly develop new friendships and seek help during the month.
This sounds great! How do I sign up?
To sign up, pay your $72 membership fee (that’s a low price of $6 per month) and turn in your list of 12 projects you plan to finish this year.
Bring in your list of 12 projects or email them to firstname.lastname@example.org. Projects can include embroidery, quilting, bag sewing, hand stitching, or applique!
Keep in mind you will have roughly 30 days to complete the project once the number has been drawn, so be realistic. To encourage you to pick one project that might be a wee bit too big for a 30-day challenge, we will remove number 1 from the first two draws. We encourage you to finish all projects in their entirety (even binding). But we know some of you prefer to quilt by check, so for those projects larger than 36” x 36” a completed top will count as a finished project.
Oh No! I can’t possibly complete the selected project this month. Do I have any options?
You joined this club for a push and deadline to complete your projects. But we know life happens and we want you to feel good about your progress. So, we will allow one swap, one substitution and one stretch during the year. Let us know of the change when you turn in your completed project and we will note you used your swap, stretch or substitution for this year.
Swap - We drew #6, but you really need to get project #2 done this month. Swap the numbers of two projects.
Stretch - #8 is your stretch project and there is just no way you can get it done this month. No problem – you get to stretch one project across 2 months.
Substitution - #5 was drawn, but for any reason you don’t want to do it this month. Pick a project from your stash that was not on your original list. The original project will no longer be on your list.
