Vases - The Exuberant Applique Way

No needle turning here! Alethea's Raw edge collage technique is easy, fun and successful.  Start with a favorite fabric with a strong image like a person, animal or something special to you.

This technique class encourages every student to create a unique small quilt or wall art.

1. Inspiration Fabric - bring pieces of an image you love, a person, which you want to 'spark' your collage
2. Vase Fabric - fabric 10"x 15" or larger to create your vase
3. Flower or other print fabrics to fill your vase
4. Pieces of Flair - Bring a few little things that you have wished you could add to a quilt that have meaning to you - birds, butterflies pictures of Elvis or even hot lips! Anything goes in this category.
5. Background fabric - bring in some choices for your piece. Think contrasting color to your vase fabric and motifs. (The nice thing about having the class at Wooden Gate Quilts is a fabulous store of fabrics at your fingertips - so don't fret if you don't know what to use as a background-- we can work on this together.
6. Soft Fuse fusible web - Available at Wooden Gate Quilts.
7. Sharp applique scissors (Karen K Buckley - Medium size are the BEST!)
8. Pins and lots of them!

Note from Alethea: I hope that you will cut out MANY motifs in advance of the class to have a variety to choose from. The more you have cut out the more time to play and create!
