Bullseye Quilt - Foundation Paper Piecing with Becky Goldsmith

You are going to love making this amazingly striking bullseye quilt! In fact, if you are like me, you will want to make more than just one!

Though the results look complicated, the quilt comes together simply and easily with easy-to-use foundation paper-piecing. The instructions are straightforward and easy to understand. The photo illustrations make this pattern particularly friendly to follow.

You can make the big bullseye all on its own, or you can stop at any ring to make a smaller quilt. Included are the instructions to make a baby-size quilt and a nine-block quilt featuring smaller bullseye blocks, with or without a flying geese border.

The paper piecing patterns include handy seam allowances so you waste less fabric!

Supply List: (all available through Wooden Gate Quilts by May 20th)

The class covers foundation paper piecing and curved piecing, specifically set-in circles. You will work on the Center Circle, Ring 1, Ring 2, and the Corners. Once you complete the course, you will be a foundation paper piecing pro!

The class block finishes at 20” x 20”. You can use this block by itself, make the 9-block quilt shown in the book, or continue adding rings using the pattern papers from the book to make a larger quilt.

  • Bullseye Quilt Pattern Book (this is a pdf pattern that will be made available on the Creative Spark site. The link will be sent to you 7-10 days prior to June 5.
  • Simple Foundations Translucent Vellum Paper (30 sheets/pack): 10 sheets for the class block. It takes 90 sheets to make the 9-block quilt, and 76 sheets to make the Big Blue Bullseye.

I recommend that you use vellum in class. It is easy to see through and that makes a huge difference. You can use a different foundation paper if you prefer.

  • 1 Sheet of Self-Adhesive Laminate to make the corner template for this block. Larger corner options in the pattern require more sheets of laminate.

  • Rotary cutter

  • 3 ̋x12 ̋ or 6 ̋x12 ̋ ruler

  • A sewing machine in good repair that you know how to use!

  • Pins for piecing. Magic Fine Quilting Pins are my favorite.

  • Clear tape

  • Seam ripper (just in case)

  • An iron and pressing surface.

    Optional, But Handy, Supplies

  • Add-A-Quarter Plus Ruler

  • Apliquick Rods

  • Ergonomic Tweezer by Apliquick

  • Fabric Glue Pen and Refills. I like the Quilter’s Select or Sewline Glue Pens.

Fabric for 1 Block:

This is a scrappy quilt and yardage amounts can vary a lot between quilters. I strongly recommend that you work on the class block before you buy fabric for the entire quilt. That said, yardage to make 9 blocks is also listed.

Label your cut pieces and place clip them together as you work.
